Brian heads up the Paragon M&A team and is recognised as one of the most experienced brokers in the M&A insurance market. He was instrumental in the growth and development of M&A insurance products across the UK and Europe and his expertise is recognised as much by clients, advisors and insurers. Brian is the go-to person for many leading M&A lawyers due to his track record on some of the most complex transactions insured.

Prior to Paragon, Brian led the Willis transactional risk team for over 12 and a half years and before that spent four years as a senior member of the very first transactional risk team at AON. He has advised on in excess of 1,500 transactions, covering a broad range of sectors and geographies, with transaction values up to £8 billion.

Andrew Johnson

Andrew is a 12 years’ qualified corporate lawyer who spent ten years at Squires in London with time in Hong Kong advising his private equity and corporate client base. This included a year within Lloyds Bank’s restructuring unit evaluating and implementing work-out strategies for distressed mid-market and private equity-backed businesses across multiple industries.

Before joining Paragon, Andrew spent four years as a senior member of the Marsh transactional risk team. At Marsh he advised his client base on public and private transactions ranging in deal size from £1 million to £8 billion across all sectors predominantly in Europe, but also including Africa, South America and the Middle East. He is known for his commercial, pragmatic style and his network and broad industry experience allow him to enjoy finding solutions for esoteric risks that sit outside the scope of a traditional M&A risk format.

Andrew has a degree in Physiology & Anatomy from the University of Bristol.

Growing up as one of six brothers and now with 3 lively boys of his own, Andrew has never received a break from complex negotiations.

Edwina Charlton

Edwina is an 11 years’ qualified corporate lawyer who began her career with Mayer Brown in London. This was followed by five years with Ashurst in Singapore, where she advised a broad corporate and private equity client base with a particular focus on the financial institutions and energy sectors.

Before joining Paragon, Edwina was a senior member of the Marsh transactional team for four years. At Marsh she advised corporates and sponsors on insuring public and private transactions, ranging in deal size from £10 million to £8 billion across all sectors and jurisdictions.
Edwina has gained a deserved reputation for excellence, especially in relation to running large, complex auction processes and is known for her attention to detail and commerciality.

Edwina has a degree in Modern Languages from the University of Edinburgh.

Edwina is an international sportswoman who brings the same level of competitive spirit to all aspects of her life. She has even gone as far as calling her third son Jack in the aspirational hope that he will take after his name sake….

Rupert Newman

Before joining Paragon, Rupert spent 4 years as a senior member of Marsh’s Transactional Risk team where he led the African and BeNeLux offering. Rupert has advised on over 300 transactions ranging in value from £10m to £3bn across a broad range of sectors. He has a proven track record for delivering insurance programmes for large and complex auction processes. He was also the first broker to structure and place a truly synthetic W&I policy and routinely advises clients on ways to use insurance capital outside of the traditional transactional risk landscape.

Rupert spends his time in both London and Amsterdam where he delivers lectures at the Vrije University on W&I insurance to corporate lawyers and general counsel participating in the M&A master’s programme.

Rupert has a first class honours degree in Biomedical Sciences from Newcastle University.

As an avid cook and traveller, Rupert can often be found either with his head in a recipe book, browsing food blogs or plotting weekends away to foodie hot-spots. He is the proud father of Tilly the cat and Dora the dog.

Anjali Anthony

Anjali leads the tax practice and is a 13 years’ qualified tax lawyer who was a senior associate at Minter Ellison in Australia before moving to London to work for the M&A tax teams at PwC and EY and more recently the tax practice at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher &Flom.

Anjali has in the last three years placed some of the highest value and complex tax risks for private equity, real estate and infrastructure funds in the UK and Europe and is renowned in the tax insurance world for having placed the largest insured tax risk outside of the US. She is known for anticipating challenges on projects before they occur.

Anjali has double degrees in Law and International Business from La Trobe University, Victoria.

Outside of work, Anjali enjoys the theatre, travel and photography and secretly thinks she is an instagram influencer!
